Special Educational Needs

A series of linked sessions that will take place throughout the year which can be accessed separately or as a series. These sessions have been developed with support from the Sure Start SEN training materials.

SEN 4: ASD, BESD, Global Delay, Cerebral Palsy

COURSE AIM: To understand the areas of special educational needs and their links to 4 specific needs.

COURSE INFORMATION: This session will look at what the SEN Code of Practice says about the areas of SEN and consider how the different specific needs link to this. Each area will involve a case study for the specific need with tasks and activities to support better understanding. Reflection from own practice will be shared and used to support others understanding of the needs.

Course objectives:

  • Know the 4 different areas listed in the SEN Code of Practice.
  • Identify specific needs usually related to Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
  • Identify specific needs usually related to Behavioural, Emotional, Social, Disorders.
  • Identify specific needs usually related to Global delay.
  • Identify specific needs usually related to Cerebral Palsy.
  • List at least 3 reasons why children should be treated as individuals. 

SUITABLE FOR: Early Years SENCOs and all those interested in supporting young children with special needs.
