Autism in Children for Teaching Assistants

Course Aim: To develop understanding of how autism can affect the school experience of the child and their family and explore ways of making this a positive experience for all concerned.       

Course Information: During the day we will identify what we mean by autism and how this can affect the following in the classroom and the wider school environment:     

  • Communication: Theirs and ours.
  • Sensory Issues: What this means for the individual child and how to help them cope in the school environment.
  • Managing challenging behaviour.
  • Going on trips: avoiding pitfalls and achieving positive outcomes.
  • Supporting the family.

Suitable For: Teaching Assistants or those training as teaching assistants who would like to be better able to support children with autism.

Date: Thursday 30 March from 10.00am-2.30pm
