    Functional Skills Level 2 Maths

    Course Information: 
    • Do you or anyone in your setting require Functional Skills L2 Maths qualification? 
    • Do you wish to up-skill your previous qualifications (O'Levels/GCSE's) with a more up to date qualification?
    • Do you wish to develop your existing Maths skills or just refresh your current knowledge?   

    Suitable For: 

    Early Years Practitioners - if you are already an EYE practitioner or are interested in becoming one, you will be aware of the recent government changes where the requirement for Level 3 staff has now changed to needing either Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSE Grade C or above in Maths.

    Teaching Assistant/Playworker - if you are already a Teaching Assistant or Playworker or are interested in becoming one, you will be aware that although it is currently not a requirement to hold Maths GCSE Grade C or above or Functional Skills L2 or above, most employers would prefer you to hold one of these qualifications.

    Planning for OFSTED

    Course Aim: To support settings and practitioners in preparing for inspection in order to help raise or maintain current Ofsted ratings.

    Course Information: This updated course will provide you with an overview of the Common Inspection Framework 2015 as well as to consider the current practice within your own setting in line with the four inspection categories and the self-evaluation process.

    On completion of this course you will:

    • be able to identify the significant changes to the inspection framework
    • gain an understanding of the four inspection areas
    • reflect on your setting's current provision and identify areas for development
    • have an awareness of Ofsted's requirements regarding safeguarding, Prevent Duty and Fundamental British Values.
              

    Suitable For: Anyone working within an early years setting and/or responsible for ensuring the quality of provision within an early years environment, including Staff, Committee members and Childminders as well as individuals seeking career development opportunities.

    Using Signs to Support Communication

    Course Aim: To support carers, settings and early years practitioners in understanding the benefits of using signs to support and aid children's language development and communication.          

    Course Information: This introductory course will provide you with an overview of the benefits of using signs alongside spoken language for key words to support children's understanding of language and communication.  Learners will be taught a good number of signs relevant to children's everyday lives in the home and educational settings.   

    On completion of this course you will have gained an overview and understanding of:

    • the different signing systems used with children and their similarities and differences
    • the benefits of using signs with spoken language to support communication and language
    • those children who may benefit from the use of signing to support their language and communication
    • key words and the different levels of understanding
    • a vocabulary of Signalong signs that you can take away and use to support children's communication.

    The course fee includes a Signalong manual with over 200 signs which normally retails at £16

    Suitable For: Those working with children with speech, language and communication difficulties in Early Years and Key stage 1, including Early years practitioners and school support workers (Teaching Assistants/Lunch Time supervisors/Classroom volunteers/OOSC staff)

    Delivered by: Naomi Webber - registered Signalong Tutor and Speech and Language Therapist with experience working with children aged 0-7 years with and without complex needs.
