For a number of years our fees & wages survey has shown a downward trend in the age that settings take children from. From recent conversations and research we know that many member settings who currently accept children from 2 are considering lowering their starting age. This hour long session, with Sue Asquith and representation from PATA is an ideal chance to hear more about the regulatory requirements and considerations of caring for babies and children under 2 years. There will be a 30 minute talk from Sue and then a 30 minute Q and A session

Whilst we will always have a focus to the network meetings, we are also mindful that there may be different concerns relating to any current issues. The network meetings will therefore always be topical taking into account the current landscape.
Our special guest speaker during the session will be Kym Scott, who will be discussing Leadership and Management in an EY setting.
This network meeting is open to Early Years Managers and Deputies in PATA member settings and provides a great opportunity to meet with colleagues from other settings and share experiences and expertise.

Join us for a short lunchtime session with the PATA Senior Management Team to discuss what being a PATA Managed Group (PMG) looks like and consider whether it's something that your setting would be interested in considering.

In April 2024 the DfE consulted about changes to the EYFS safeguarding and welfare requirements and subsequently published their response in October. This session is ideal for anyone working in an Early Years setting in England. We will explore the Safer Eating/Food and Drink facility requirements covered by the DfE's Safeguarding Reforms (2024) consultation to help you prepare for their implementation from September 2025.

This session looks at how creativity can support children’s wellbeing, and how we can extend the creative practices we offer. We will look at different types of creativity from craft, sculpture, painting and drawing, dance, music, singing, poetry and storytelling. You will leave with lots of ideas to try out.

We know that involving parents and carers in their children’s learning is the most important factor in enabling some children to do well regardless of background. Our parents and carers make a crucial difference to children’s outcomes and we have a responsibility to make all families feel welcomed and listened to. Whilst you can’t avoid ever having to have a difficult conversation with a parent or carer, there are plenty of ways to make it a more productive and pleasant experience.
We also know that at times you will need to have difficult conversations with your work colleagues (e.g., performance related issues, differences in opinions etc.) or with other professionals.

Emotional dysregulation describes behaviours that don't fall within the usual accepted range of young children’s reactions to events or experiences. It may be seen where there is a marked fluctuation in emotional responses, unexpected outbursts and separation anxiety; thus affecting social interactions, group dynamics and relationships at home and nursery/school. Children demonstrating emotional dysregulation may have experienced early childhood trauma, attachment disorder, neglect or abuse. Course Overview: Leading a team in the early years is a multi-faceted role, treading that fine line between support and challenge, inspiring others to be the best they can be, whilst also establishing clear expectations for quality and impact. All this and so much more, and yet many leaders in the early years report never having had any formal training at all for the role! This course is intended to provide a practical toolkit for leaders to draw upon in their roles. It will take the form of one day session and one online session, offering opportunities for reflection, discussion, and questions, alongside information.

This training session explores ADHD and how it can present in young children. We will explore early signs and misconceptions of ADHD alongside strategies to support children in the learning environment and setting. We are currently able to offer the following Makaton training:-
Upcoming dates for each Level are detailed below.
Makaton is a multi-modal language programme that uses signs, symbols and speech for children and adults with speech, language and communication needs to build on their understanding and use of speech and language.
These are fun, informal sessions with a chance to practise the signs and symbols taught with each other and learn a new skill. You will receive workbooks and a certificate of attendance.
Level 1 training provides a practical introduction to the Makaton Language Programme. Sessions include discussing commonly asked questions, hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use and how to start using Makaton in everyday situations at home or work. You will also learn the signs and symbols from Stages 1 and 2, and some of the Additional stage, of the Core Vocabulary.
Level 2 training in Makaton builds on what you learnt in Level 1. You will learn the signs and symbols from Stages 3 and 4, and the rest of the Additional stage, of the Core Vocabulary.
Level 3 training helps you to improve and develop your signing and symbol skills and how to use them effectively every day. You will revise the signs and symbols you learned in your Level 1 and 2 training and learn the signs and symbols for Stages 5 and 6 of the Core Vocabulary.
Level 4 training completes the Makaton Core Vocabulary and formal training. You will revise the signs and symbols you learned in your Level 1, 2 and 3 training, and learn the signs and symbols for Stages 7 and 8 of the Core Vocabulary.
The course fee includes a Makaton workbook per Level.
Taster Session These short sessions are designed for anyone who is interested in finding out about Makaton before deciding whether or not to attend further intensive Makaton training. The Taster session gives you a general introduction into what Makaton is and who uses it, with the opportunity to learn a few signs and symbols too (between 30 and 60).

NoodleNow provide online courses (there are currently 93 but this is increasing all the time). Once you are registered you can log in at any time and work through a course. At the end you will undertake a short test and if successful receive a certificate for your CPD file. All the courses are included in the cost and access is for one year from registration.
It's a great way for practitioners to upskill at their own pace, but also to pick a course to help with a specific issue - for example there is a course on dealing with biting. If you have a child who starts biting, any members of your team who are registered with NoodleNow can do the course as a refresher and come up with a plan of action.
We think that these courses will complement our 'live' training and provide you with another option for keeping your practice fresh and relevant.
